Q&A | a Q re: leash biting and long line use
-
Hi All,
Tips for introducing a long line? Owen will occasionally bite his short leash or grab his longer retractable leash in his mouth. He will readily “Drop It” when asked.
Happens when he’s frustrated (what’s it called? barrier reactivity?), and when he’s doing a long recall — where the leash annoys him by flapping around his legs. In the interest of speed, he grabs the leash in his mouth to get it off the ground.
I want to start using a long line for training once we move on from the neighbor’s fenced in yard we have been using daily. Don’t want him biting / carrying the long line, but suspect it will be an attractive target. The only exposure he’s had to the long line is my showing it to him several times while feeding treats.
Thanks much!
Holly
